Why did you become overweight?

What is the pain reason you became overweight? Was it just food, lack of exercise, medication,  combination of all of the above? I used to always say genes, but as of late I’ve started to realize that I just always ate way too much. I am an impulse shopper so I can plan my grocery list but I never stick to it and always come home with more than I needed, and it’s never healthy stuff.

I was a little pudgy before, but having kids sent me into obesity and kept me there.  Not just weight gain from being pregnant, but my metabolism seemed to slow tremendously after I gave birth and I’m a stress eater, so junk food was my coping tool while I dealt with toddler meltdowns and no sleep.  That probably sounds like I’m blaming my kids which isn’t my intention.  There are plenty of skinny moms after all.

Mine was a combination of polycystic ovaries and hypothyroidism. The thyroid made me extremely tired and the issues with my ovaries were not helping. After finding out my biological father was an extreme diabetic who had dialysis four times a week I’ve decided I do not want to live that lifestyle when I get older.

Combination of genetics and food. I’ve been different levels of overweight my entire life. It’s only gotten worse as I’ve gotten older. Having a job that requires a lot of travel and thus eating out certainly contributed. However, I’ve seen many people with a similar diet not gain weight like I do. I’m confident genetics plays a role.

For me it was a simple matter of eating too much. I never felt when I was full, I just kept eating. It was like my stomach was a black hole. Now that has luckily changed!

My obesity is a mix of genetics and using food as comfort.  I’ve been cautioned about using food as my coping mechanism because the surgery might not help me if I can’t come up with healthy methods to get me through rough times.  I’m working on it.

I became overweight by constantly eating and never feeling full even as a kid and also not being as active. It was a combination of things and emotional triggers. I’ve always been overweight ever since I was 10/11 years old.
