Where to Find Workout Buddies?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to lose weight before my surgery in October. I have a hard time getting motivated to exercise, so I thought it would be a good idea to get a workout buddy. But where do I look for one? Should I ask a friend or try to find someone else to workout with me?

I bet your friends would love to support you this way!  It’s more fun to workout with a buddy and I’d personally feel less self-conscious when exercising with a friend.  The thing to keep in mind is that you need to ask a friend who will push you and hold you accountable rather than a friend who’s easy to persuade and steamroll over.

What about asking a coworker to walk with you during your lunch break?  Walking is something  you can do anytime, anywhere and if you get a coworker to do it too, you won’t be able to skip it  easily.  Plus, you’ll already be together, so you might as well just get it done.  At least that would be my way of thinking.

At my doctor’s office, there’s a signup sheet for weight-loss surgery patients who are looking for exercise buddies.  See if your doctor has something similar and if not maybe you could start one.

I bet a friend would love to exercise with you, but if you can’t work your schedules out, try asking for a workout buddy on your neighborhood’s Nextdoor page or on Facebook.
