What to Do with Food Gifts?

A lot of my friends and family like giving food as gifts around the holidays. Many of them know that I’m headed in for surgery soon, so they know not to give me food this year. However, co-workers and other friends don’t know I’m having surgery, and I’ve already started getting some goodies. I graciously accept the food, but then what do I do with it? I feel odd re-gifting these things. I also feel strange giving them to local food banks, but at least that way someone could enjoy them. What do you all do with food gifts?

It depends on what it is. We still will need food to survive, so chances are you may be able to eat some of it anyway? Just give to family or friends what you will not be eating.

If it’s a holiday treat, it’s likely to be filled with carbs and contain several servings.  Can you limit yourself to just one serving?  I couldn’t before I got sleeved and wouldn’t want to risk it, so off to the neighbor’s it goes.

Lewis, have you been approved for surgery?  Do you have to lose 10% or so of your total weight to have surgery?  I did, but I’m not sure if that’s a universal thing. Good luck to you!  I know it must be tricky to diet around the holidays.
