What To Believe?

I went to 3 different doctors without telling them that I’ve been to other physicians in order to see whether all of them have the same diagnosis. The problem now is that these 3 doctors have different opinions. What will you do if you were in my situation?

I’m not a doctor, but you may go to a trusted physician and tell that doctor about the different opinions that you gathered. I’m sure that there is a common thing in those opinions that we may just don’t understand it.

Is this about weight-loss surgery?  Some doctors disagree with the surgery because, in my opinion, they don’t understand how difficult it is to lose weight and keep it off.  Could that be playing a part in it?  You could always ask the doctor what they think about option X or why they prefer option Y over option X,  without letting that doctor know you’ve gotten a second opinion.

Depending on the length of time between appointments, your health could have been very different at each one.  I know for me, my blood pressure and sugar levels can be all over the  place so one doctor might think my obesity/pre-diabetes is most important while the other worries more over my heart health.  Why not let them know that you’ve sought a second and third opinion?  It might help you get a better outcome if they share opinions/testing results.  Good luck, Astrid.  I hope it works out!

I had this problem with my friends and family members, but not with the physicians I consulted. In my experience, people who are not in the medical field have different opinions about this matter. I would say to those who are doubting this procedure that you follow what you think will make you feel better.

That must be confusing. I suppose that’s not impossible as the doctors might have different educational backgrounds. I think it’s best to go with the one that makes sense the most, the one that you feel you can trust.

Let us know how it goes!

I went back to all three doctors, but I mentioned the opinions of the other doctors to the physician I was currently talking to. It is amazing that they changed their opinions after hearing other doctors’ perspectives.

From Astrid

Do they now have the same opinions about your condition? It sounds a little strange, but I’m not a professional, so never mind. I just hope that you can find better answers to your questions now.

They don’t have the same opinion, but they have supported the ideas that I wanted to have. They concur with some of the opinions of the other doctors after hearing my reasons.
