Medical tourism online platform

I’ve just read an interesting article at Forbes about an online platform facilitating international trips for medical purposes. I’ve never used it before, so I can’t vouch for its credibility, but maybe others have and can give pointers to those who still need help with their surgery.

Would you take the procedure out of the country if you had the chance?

I am still in the process of finding the medical center that I can afford. I don’t want to incur debt after the surgery, so I’m saving up money for the surgery.

Regarding the out-of-the-country procedure, I would pass because the recovery period may be expensive if I stay in that place. I also don’t want to travel a few days after my surgery, so I opt for a medical center near our place or within the country.

Thanks a bunch for sharing that information!  My sister is looking into getting weight-loss surgery in Mexico, probably in Tijuana or Cancun.  She doesn’t have insurance that will cover the procedure and it would be about $14,000 to $20,000 to have surgery in the United States.

I received weight-loss surgery in the United Sates because my insurance covered it.  If I had to pay for everything out of pocket I’d absolutely consider going overseas.  Medical care in the U.S. is ridiculously expensive and doctors sometimes rush us through.  I’ve heard good things about many of the overseas clinics.  I see no reason not to go for it.

What’s sad is that some insurers and employers refuse to cover procedures for obesity but they’ll pay for the cardiac and diabetic care that you’re likely to need if you remain obese.

If I found a reputable center to have the surgery at, I would totally consider having it done somewhere outside the United States. I’m fortunate that my insurance is covering my surgery, but I know many others aren’t as fortunate.

What I’m not completely sure is whether the cost outside the surgery is worth the trip. If we end up spending lots of money on the plane tickets, lodging, and food anyway, it seems much better to do the surgery without going far away. I imagine it’s uncomfortable to move around with stitches in our body.
