Surgery May Need to be Postponed Due to Asthna

I have asthma, and lately it has not been very well-controlled. The heat is hard on me, and I’ve been trying to exercise more, which has also caused more asthma attacks.

I’m going to see my allergist this next week to discuss my situation. I’m afraid she’s going to tell my surgeon that we need to postpone my surgery until my breathing is better. I don’t want to take unnecessary risks, of course, but I am just so ready to have my surgery and would hate for it to have to be postponed.

I don’t think you need to postpone the surgery. Asthma attacks can be treated with inhalers or nebulizers. The stomach cannot be affected by the medicines inhaled. Don’t take my word for it though, as this is only an opinion.

It does seem like a good plan to see your allergist before the surgery as I’m sure you need it well under control. Maybe it’s better to take things slow for now to let your body calm down.

When is your surgery date? Does your surgeon also know about this condition?
