Suggestions for high-protein snacks and meals?

I need to lose about 10% of my body weight before my surgery date and it is HARD!  I’m so hungry.  The doctor said I should focus on consuming snacks and meals that are high in protein, but low in carbs and calories.  Any suggestions other than boiled eggs?

You could try a yogurt parfait. Layer granola and berries with yogurt. The snack is healthy and contains a lot of protein. Other foods high in protein include tuna, almonds, cottage cheese, roasted pumpkin seeds, peanut butter, and cheese sticks. Of course, you want to be careful about some of these as they contain a lot of calories, but if you eat these snacks in moderation, it should be okay.

It’s so hot out that one of my favorite go-to snacks is frozen grapes.  They’re refreshing.  You could add a tablespoon of peanut butter in order to add protein and healthy fats.  It would be like a peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich, but without the bread.

My doctor told me that I can have lean meat in the first few days of my pre-op diet in order to slowly adjust my diet into a low-calorie diet. Protein shakes will become our staple food before the surgery so we should make a determination in our mind that we will be having this diet for a better and healthier body.

You guys are incredibly helpful!  I sure do appreciate it.  I went to the store and stocked up on the items you suggested and I got rid of the bad food in my cabinets.  @Astrid, I’ll have to check about those shakes.  I think my doctor said I’d be on a clear liquid diet two days before surgery, but that may very well encompass protein shakes without sugar.  I go back tomorrow to pick up my info packet.  I bet it will be in there.  So far the hardest part is dealing with these headaches where I’ve had to give up caffeine and sugar.
