Starting the diet early

I don’t have a surgery date set yet, but I’m thinking about trying the pre-surgery diet early to get used to it. If it all goes well, I won’t have to wait too long for the surgery to be scheduled, right? Going full liquid starting tomorrow doesn’t seem probable, but maybe I can do the others.

Have you been approved for surgery already?  If not, well, I don’t want to discourage you from trying to better your health, but if your weight is borderline you might want to hold off since you have to meet certain thresholds before insurance will cover the surgery.

If you show that you can lose weight that way, the insurance might not approve it since surgery is supposed to be a last resort.  Do you think you can keep the weight off long-term if you try sticking to the diet without having surgery?  If so, I say go for it.  I’ll be cheering for you.  Otherwise, dieting now could mess up your approval process and it could also cause you to plateau right after surgery when you should be losing most of the weight.

The diet is pretty miserable.  I did what I needed to shrink my liver before surgery because I was motivated to survive the thing and I had a goal in mind.  I followed the diet after surgery because there’s little choice as it literally makes you very sick to cheat.  Plus, I didn’t want to rupture my stomach or stretch my sleeve after I’d just gotten it.  I also knew that the diet was only for a short period of time, then I could eat what I loved before just in smaller amounts.  No way could I have followed the diet on my own just to lose weight.   I think trying to follow the strict diet in advance would’ve put me off having surgery because it’s not fun at all.

I didn’t worry about being ineligible for the surgery because I thought I was too overweight. I couldn’t find any eating plans which could help me, so I didn’t think I would lose much from the pre-surgery diet. You’re right that it’s really hard. I was stupid to jump in with such a mindset. I stopped the plan after two days because I was feeling too miserable. I’ll just do it when the time comes. What a test of patience!

There’s no shame in trying to get an early start on the weight loss thing.  I admire you  for planning ahead and being proactive.  I’m sure that will translate into success down the road.

The goal is to starve the pancreas, however, if your BMI is low to begin with in Insured surgery, this can also disqualify you. If you are doing Medical Tourism, BMI guidelines and prep are typically 2 wks for BMI 40-55, LOWER than that is only couple days clear liquid only. 55plus, extended diet based on health, is mapped out. The first 4days suck. Expect Migraines, nausea, vomiting & extra female cycles. To ease the symptoms Ginger & Pineapple tea, (nausea) freeze and put in Dixie cups for shots after too, Sauna for migraines, 15 min a day 2times is the same calories burned as a 2.5 mile walk, and female supplies as it can happen day of due to stress.

I don’t think it is the best idea since at first I believe you’re super motivated but then after a while it could drain you and you won’t be able to make it to the end, which is super important. Maybe hold off for a bit, or maybe you can start by cutting things out a little at a time?
