Relationship Changes

Has anything with between you and your partner changed, pre- or post-op? My husband has been so supportive overall. The only nitpick is that we eat so differently from each other now. Sometimes I wonder if he’s annoyed that I don’t want to join him for big meals anymore.

That is the same in my relationship, the difference in our eating. My husband is very supportive but we used to go out to eat more. I think he misses it.

I can see how that would make a difference since food is a huge part of our social engagement. Even though we can eat out too, we eat very little and it probably feels awkward for everyone else who is still digging in.

That is true. It makes it awkward because I don’t eat much plus I don’t like to. I know what I can eat, so I try to make it at home. Eating is a huge part of social engagement.

Mine is supportive, but I haven’t had the operation yet so that may change. Do you sit at the table and just keep him company so he isn’t eating alone? It really might not matter to him, but I worry about little things like that.

My husband teases me sometimes about “eating like a bird” now but overall he’s been very supportive. He makes me lots of meals and comforts me when I’m feeling down. I don’t mind a little teasing, it’s therapeutic to laugh 🙂
