Post-op medications

4 4 days ago

I take a daily medication that is a time released capsule. Crushing it, taking a liquid version, or any other type of medication in place of it isn’t an option. I asked the dietician about it and she said it would be ok to take it. I have my pre-op appt with the doctor this week and will ask him as well. Anyone have experience post-surgery with taking capsules? Any issues?

I’m due to have surgery soon and wondered the same thing. I take medication for diabetes as well as a blood thinner. I bet this is a common issue for people who have weight-loss surgery, so hopefully it’s not something we have to be concerned about.

No, I didn’t have any issues at all.  You do need to plan ahead though if you need to take it with food.  Since you aren’t supposed to drink anything while eating, I used to take my meds with some protein pudding.  I’d pop them in my mouth, eat a spoonful of pudding, and swallow them down.  It worked.
