Many changes happen post-surgery, and I have heard that it becomes harder to absorb certain nutrients like Iron, Vitamin B12, Calcium and Vitamin D. Did you doctor recommend taking supplements so as not to fall short of these nutrients?

It is advisable to take certain supplements post-surgery, and even when you experience difficulty with swallowing pills, you can go for the chewable or crushed version. The common ones are multivitamin with iron, vitamin B12, vitamin D and calcium citrate.

Generally speaking, everyone is supposed to take a complete multivitamin, but the supplements you need largely depends on which surgery you have.  Those who have a gastric bypass need to take more supplements than those who opt for a different type of weight-loss surgery.

I agree with you @LAT, and one must take these supplements daily to prevent nutrient deficiencies. Often, the recommended vitamins and supplements are calcium, multivitamin, Vitamin D and Vitamin B12.
