Leg, foot cramps

I keep getting terrible foot and leg cramps while walking. Sometimes it even happens at night while I am trying to sleep. Does this happen because my body isn’t used to exercising? What can I do?

It could be overuse of those muscles, but since it happens when you sleep too, I wonder if you need more potassium. Try eating some bananas and see if that helps.

It’s impossible to say for sure, but maybe you need to do some stretches before walking and before going to bed. It might help put a stop to the cramps.

I’d say potassium for sure! Try drinking a little dill pickle juice before bed. It seems to help me. You could also eat a little banana. I still get foot cramps but not as often.

Are they shin splints or cramps? I would agree that you should try to eat more potassium. Also walk around on your heels and then tiptoes. It stretches out your shins and calves.

Both now that you mention it. It’s not like I’m running or anything, but I was pretty sedentary before I needed to lose weight for surgery. I’ll take your advice about walking on my toes and heels to stretch things out and will eat some bananas for the potassium.
