Getting nervous before surgery

Hi, I’m new around here.  I’m getting a little nervous because my gastric sleeve surgery is scheduled for this Tuesday and I’m just worried something will go wrong.  I’ve only had my wisdom teeth removed before.  I’ve never needed anything more intense than that, so this feels like a lot.  I’m glad my family and best friend are going with me so at least I’ll have support.  I hope I’m not stuck in the hospital for a long time.  About how long were you there?  Was anyone else nervous right before?

Welcome to the group, Mia!  I was both excited and nervous the day before my surgery.  As cliché as it sounds,  the surgery will be over before you know it.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you.  I hope you’ll let us know how it went.

Hope it goes well for you Mia. Normally you get sent home the next day if you tolerate fluid and yoghurt ok. I was kept in 5 days as kept vomiting and bad nausea. Couldn’t even keep fluid down but others on my ward who had by pass seemed to do better than me. I think mine was just unlucky, generally people seem to bounce back pretty quick. All the best x x

That sounds pretty awful!  I know complications can happen, I just hope it’s an easy in and out for me.  I suppose I should look on the bright side of things.  If I’m going to struggle at least I’ll feel secure with this doctor and his team.  I trust them.  I hope you’re doing much better today, Loopy12a!

Hi Mia. I’m not an expert on this matter so take my word with a grain of salt. My educated guess would be that your recovery period will be determined by how fast your wound can heal up. I had a C-section when I gave birth, and I stayed in the hospital for three days, although I need another month for my wound to really heal up.

Hi Mia! Welcome to the group. I am waiting for my surgery to be scheduled and wondered how long most people stay in the hospital, too. It sounds like most can go home the next day, so hopefully that will be the case for you. I’m really glad you have supportive people going with you!

Thank you all for the kind thoughts and warm welcoming.  I appreciate the fast support I’ve found here!  I’ll definitely be back once I’ve recovered some.  It’s hard to believe that tomorrow is the big day.

Mia, I’m late, but I hope the surgery went well and that you’re already home around this time! I’d be amazed if someone says they are not nervous before the surgery. It’s not something simple like getting a general check-up or something.

How’s everything going?

Thank you for asking, blackdust.  I’m alive and well-ish.  My incision is itching a bit and I’m pretty cranky on this liquid diet.  I’ve avoided chatting too much online and in person because I’m kinda moody at the moment.  It helps to know I’m not alone in this and I appreciate all the support I’ve found here!

I’m glad to hear that. Congratulations for taking that first step! You are far from alone; it’s been over a year for me, and I still struggle sometimes. I hope you will recover fast and can pass the liquid stage quickly.
