How many calories must you burn to lose a pound?  For years the school of thought was that burning 3,500 calories would do the trick, but I recently stumbled across an article claiming that the number is actually twice that amount.  Yikes!

I’m not sure I buy that, but I think it highlights the need for better food choices since it’s easier to impact your weight through diet than it is through exercise. That’s always been true.

That’s interesting. I’m not sure I believe that, but it does take a lot of work to burn off a pound. That’s why developing good eating and exercise habits is important to reaching and maintaining a healthy weight.

I’ve always heard that if you burn 3,500 calories, you’ve burned off a pound. No matter if it’s 3,500 calories or more than that, though, I’m sure we can all attest that it’s easier to put on than take off!

I’ve never heard of those numbers. It only scares us more, doesn’t it? As long as we mind what we eat, we will shake off the weight naturally. But still, that means carbs translate to so much more calories than what I thought!
